Party with Bats

posted by tristan @ 5/30/2006 06:50:00 PM

A wonderful saturday evening spent.

After half a day of standby, I have decided to take the risk and carry on with my plans. Meet up with esther and erjie for volunteer work at Kent Ridge Park. My first time being there and I realise it has such a fantastic view. Its a programme organised by the Nature Society, so a couple of NIE trainees including erjie was there to help out. I joined in the fun as well because we'll be interacting with little children from Kindergarden. I love kids as they are such cute and lovable people who're harmless, original and speaks right from their heart.

The main purpose of the "Party with Bats" was to share and educate them more about bats. We started off with some memory games with the little ones, followed by a talk by Doctor Vilma. Then, we were separated into groups for activites. That is to learn more about bats characteristics and behaviour, a brief write up on a chart and a presentation from various groups. (Wah! So young only start to have presentation, haha!)

As the night approach, it was a trek to find bats using the bats detector. Bats activities started to took place and I was amazed, so were the children. (I just realise, only insect bats will send echosound waves to search for their food. 21 years old then start to realise also not that late right?). While treking and searching for the bats, 3 of Doc Vilma's friends were already hunting for bats. They took quite sometime to catch one, applause please. Bats aren't creepy as it seems and this is the first time I have an upclose and personal view of a bat. Its like a hamster/ or mouse with wings. Pretty cute actually. =) After the kids have seen the bat and , it was put back into the wild.

Had a debrief and we went out to have Nasi Lemak and Prata for dinner. Followed by Selegie beancurd (consecutive 3 weeks for me) and chilling out at Changi Terminal till 2a.m. Anyway, thanks to erjie, my qing ai de peng you, also wq for driving us around that night. I had so much fun.
